Event Details

February's title is Horse by Geraldine Brooks. The Pulitzer-winning author tells a tale centered on Lexington, one of America's first champion thoroughbreds. His trainer, Jarret, is an enslaved man having to negotiate the racial landscape of mid-19th-century Kentucky. The novel moves between the present day and the Civil War era in its examination of the fraught racial aspects of horse racing in U.S. history. For adults. Copies of the book are available at the service desk. Space is limited. Registration required.
