The November 23 book is A Wild Winter Swan by Gregory Maguire.  A sequel to Hans Christian Anderson's fairy tale, "The Wild Swans," this is an Italian-American girl's poignant coming-of-age story, set at Christmastime in 1960s New York City.  Raised by stern grandparents, Laura, 15, expelled after retaliating against a bully, wants a guardian angel to rescue her from potential boarding school.  Instead, appearing on the roof one stormy night is a dirty, bedraggled young man with a swan's wing for an arm.  Laura tries to care for him and build him another wing without anyone noticing.
