Program Description

Event Details

Ever since the Creature from the Black Lagoon was first released, audiences have marveled at how such creepiness can exist within such a place of beauty.  Most don’t know the weirdness that lives where it was shot is much darker.  From tales of spook lights and a haunted canoe at Silver Springs to the ghost of a woman who stalks the woods looking for revenge, the Ocala National Forest and the surrounding towns have been the source of campfire stories and haunted legends since before the state was a state. Join author and folklorist Christopher Balzano as he launches his new book Haunted Ocala National Forest and gives the audience some of the haunted legends that make this part of Florida one of the scariest in the country.  We will then view the old classic, "Creature From the Black Lagoon" followed by audience questions. It is going to be "scaly" good time.
