Event Details

Based on the true story of a female doctor in 15th-century China, this historical novel reimagines the life of Tan Yunxian. Being born into an aristocratic family meant her fate was to be a limited education, bound feet, arranged marriage, childbirth, and life spent behind the walls of the family compound. But after the early death of her mother, she is raised by her grandparents, both doctors, and given an unusual education in the healing arts they practiced. Tan learns how to diagnose illnesses, especially those related to related to pregnancy & childbirth, at a time when male doctors refused to even touch female patients or help them give birth. For adults. Space is limited. Registration required.
