Book Discussion - "The Book of Lost Friends" @ Spring Hill Branch

This saga was inspired by little-known historical events and based on actual "Lost Friends" ads that appeared in Southern newspapers, as freed slaves searched for loved ones lost when their families were sold off.  In 1875 Louisiana three young women (two heiresses and a former slave) go on a perilous quest to Texas after the Civil War.  In 1987 a new teacher at a poor rural school in Louisiana rediscovers their story and its wider implications for her students’ lives and for their town.
